Bubble Bass Guide

One thing I love about SpongeBob SquarePants is its unique roster of characters and individual storylines. It is definitely among those cartoon shows that are equally fun for young kids and even adults! I’m ultimately excited when the show introduces a new character. Of course, it’s truly refreshing to see a fresh face that goofs around with SpongeBob.

However, I could vividly remember the times when I wasn’t entirely happy when the show unveiled a new character, Bubble Bass. Unlike any other new character debuts, I hated him when he was first introduced. Far from being a comedic relief, Bubble Bass is just out there confusing and gaslighting SpongeBob so that he even went crazy for days because of his selfishness.

Nevertheless, Bubble Bas’ intriguing personality and motives are quite fun to watch. If you’re interested in knowing more about Bubble Bass, this blog is definitely for you. I will discuss everything you need to know about her background, abilities, relationships, and more. Warning: Spoilers ahead!

Bottom line Up Front

Bubble Bass is one of SpongeBob’s mortal enemies. He is a rude, obese, olive-green-skinned bass that has been a recurring character in the show. While he is deemed lazy and irresponsible, he is quite strong and athletic. He can even run fast to escape from anyone trying to catch him.

Information at a Glance

  • Full Name: Bubble Bass
  • Occupation: Bum (But Could be an Employee of Bubble Books)
  • Home Location: Bikini Bottom, Pacific Ocean
  • Most Memorable Moment: Pickles and Moving Bass
  • Family: Mama Bass (mother), Grandma Bass (grandmother)

Bubble Bass: Appearance, Personality, and More

Appearance: A Stereotypical Neckbeard

Bubble Bass has a prominent character design which is quite similar to some residents in Bikini Bottom. However, he differentiates his looks in his outfit. He wears thick black glasses, an orange tank top, and a pair of sweatpants.

It’s quite obvious that he loves to eat, given the size of his belly. These are actually among his noticeable physical features. His shirt can barely fit his body and even has visible outlines of his flabby chest. When he wears it, it looks like a crop top showing the overgrown curly hair in his belly button area.

He also has short black strands of hair and stubble on his double chin. As for his facial features, Bubble Bass isn’t the most odd-looking character; he looks rather normal with big green lips and small eyes.

In the season 1 episode “Fools in April,” Bubble Bass looked quite different and was depicted to be a mauve-coloured rather than a green bass. He also wore a different outfit, sporting a white tank top and blue sweatpants.

Personality

Food Motivated Lunatic

Bubble Bass is out to get SpongeBob. He is a disrespectful, arrogant, yet nerdy food critic who is never shy to share rude and snarky remarks. Every time he goes to a restaurant, he makes an unrealistic tall order—demanding a lot of specifics which he is also very particular about. Every time he takes a bite of his food, he tends to make a face and complain about something minor or trivial.

At some point, he even throws his food on the ground and calls it “garbage.” Despite his rude attitude, he is still taken seriously by everyone in the food industry; his reviews can certainly shape a lot of the customers’ opinions. Mr. Krabs is particularly afraid of his snarky comments in fear of ruining the reputation of Krusty Krab.

In the episode Pickles, we’ve seen Bubble Bass’ ulterior motive; he loves to frame up and point out SpongeBob’s mistake just to get free food. He immediately ran away when it was revealed that he had hidden the pickles, and SpongeBob didn’t forget about it. It only shows that his character is not just arrogant but cowardly and irresponsible too.

Nerdy and Unmotivated Brat

When Bubble Bass is not acting like a food critic/jerk, he spends most of his time reading comic books and playing board games. I think that his hobbies are just a projection of how he sees his life—stale and boring.

He has always been lazy and unmotivated. In fact, he doesn’t have any plans for the future and still lives in his mom’s basement, doing absolutely nothing productive. His mom constantly nags at him, yet the thick-faced brat just refuses to get a job, as seen in the episode Moving Bubble Bass.

Pseudo Intellectual

Despite being an unmotivated glutton, Bubble still thinks he is smart and superior to everyone around him. His knowledge of comic book characters and culinary jargon makes him relatively well-versed than other residents in Bikini Bottom. This is probably the reason why he belittles everyone around him.

Bubble Bass owns an extensive collection of action figures and comic books. He also enjoys collecting different kinds of merchandise from the series “The Adventures of Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy.” Aside from that, he’s addicted to the fantasy board game, Three Deadly Challenges.

Powers and Abilities

Strength

Because of his sheer size, Bubble Bass is quite strong. He can effortlessly pick-up full grown adults with ease despite the lack of workout or muscle mass. At one point, he even threw Squidward like a ball without breaking a sweat.

Deception

Bubble Bass is a master liar. He can lie without batting an eyelid and can easily trick SpongeBob and Patrick. He usually goes to extreme lengths for his lies, hiding things under his tongue or lying through his teeth to escape any awkward situation.

Crushing Weight

Bubble Bass weight is one of the running gags in the show. Because he is a heavyset fish, he can easily crush anyone by stepping on them or suffocating them with his gigantic butt.

He is seen jumping on someone out of spite and casually torturing Bikini Bottom residents. In “F.U.N.,” Bubble Bass wasn’t shy to use his weight by shoving his buttcheeks around Plankton, squashing his small, petite body.

Mediocre Intelligence

Undeniably, Bubble Bass knows his stuff; he is well-versed in different subjects, particularly in nerdy information about comic books, T.V. shows, and video games. He is also quite passionate about culinary arts and different cuisine, making him a self-proclaimed food critic.

Belching

I didn’t realize that belching could have been a useful talent or power, not until Bubble Bass showed such ability in “Big Bad Bubble Bass.” He belched and burped with the help of a fizzy coke and destroyed people’s houses like a tornado.

His belching power could be a genetic trait he inherited from his mother, Mama Bass, who could also do the same even without relying on fizzy coke.

Pungent Smell

Lazy as he is, Bubble Bass neglects proper hygiene, even as simple as bathing or showering. That’s why his body has a build-up of body odor. He uses his B.O. as a weapon against

In the film “SpongeBob’s Big Birthday Blowout,” Bubble Bass’s head locks Squidward under his arm, eventually releasing his armpit stench on him. This made Squidward melt in disgust. Aside from his body odor, he also has severe halitosis due to poor dental hygiene and an unhealthy diet.

Quotes

Bubble Bass might be a peculiar, nerdy, and arrogant character, but I find his lines quite amusing. Whether you like it or not, you find different things annoying and intolerable. So, you’ve probably acted like Bubble Bass at least once!

His funny anecdotes and quotes are certainly unforgettable. How could you forget his most famous line, “Where’s the PICKLESSS?” Here’s a list of the most relatable quotes from Bubble Bass:

You will never win, Hoodoo! Because we have the power of reluctant friendship!

SquarePants… I hear talk you make a mean Krabby Patty.

Hey, naughty naughty! You look pretty funny! You won’t get my money! Nah, Nah, Nah, Nah, Nah!

All I need to do is find two able-bodied idiots. But where am I to find such stupidity on such short notice?

Yes, I will have a quad patty with a sprinkling of Himalayan salt, smoked paprika, and microgreens. I would like my cheese be-cheesed, but not just any cheese will do. Do you have any aged Howooda? And yes, it’s pronounced “Howooda,” not “Gouda.”

Really, Krabs? Is this some kind of new promotional gimmick? Surely, you can do better than this, Eugene. I mean, you even wasted real pickles on this cheap costume? Pretty insulting if you ask me.

Role: More than Just a Bully

Ever since Bubble Bass became a recurring character in the show, his character became more nuanced; the writers are quite bold in exploring his family life—we’ve seen how he interacted with his mom and grandma. It seems that Bubble Bass is quite comfortable bullying everyone around, even those who are close to him.

His character was reintroduced in the second half of season 9, and he also made minor appearances as a background character in a few episodes. Of course, I’ll delve a little bit deeper into his major appearances in the cartoon series:

Pickles

This is Bubble Bass’s debut episode, and he’s keen on making a mark! I clearly remember his sly and demanding voice. He’s just really out there to make your day turn sour, but SpongeBob seems to understand his complicated order.

While SpongeBob serves the meal, Bubble Bass suspiciously takes a sniff of it before taking a bite. He quickly claims that SpongeBob forgot the pickles. In a state of shock, SpongeBob leaves work despondent, claiming he has forgotten how to prepare Krabby Patties.

Later on, SpongeBob mustered up all his courage and regained his confidence in his role as a fry cook at Krusty Krabs. Bubble Bass returns once again and orders a Krabby Patty emphasizing that it must include the pickles. SpongeBob immediately prepares the pickles, and Bubble Bass still claims that the order still doesn’t have any pickles.

This time, SpongeBob notices that Bubble Bass is hiding the pickles underneath his tongue. He exposes Bubble Bass. Before the angry mob swarms Bubble Bass, he quickly escapes.

F.U.N.

Bubble Bass returns in the SpongeBob SquarePants series after eight seasons. However, he only makes a minor appearance. Bubble Bass accidentally squishes Plankton with his butt when SpongeBob asks him to move. He eventually leaves when SpongeBob throws popcorn at him. At the end of the episode, Bubble Bass thought of Plankton as a jelly bean.

Plankton’s Good Eye

The gag where Bubble Bass squishes Plankton’s small body happens in this episode again. Despite Bubble Bass’ brief appearance, Bubble Bass’ scenes were quite hilarious that they became the show’s running gag.

Bulletin Board

Bulletin Board is among my favorite Bubble Bass episodes. It’s funny to see how he interacts with the trio. In the episode, Bubble Bass supports P-Star 7’s agenda.

He also writes a message on the board under the alias “HandsomeLad42,” which speaks a lot more about his ego than anything else. He deliberately mocks SpongeBob for getting an insulting message, yet little does he know he also got a hurtful message from P-Star 7.

Moving Bubble Bass

This episode stars Bubble Bass; he is the main antagonist once again after the Pickles episode. Bubble Bass is quite annoyed by his mother’s nagging, so he moves out of her house to avoid any chores. He pretends to be injured, so he seeks SpongeBob and Patrick’s assistance to move his stuff to his grandmother’s home.

He failed to fulfill his promise of treating the duo to lunch because he bullied them and ate their food on their behalf. SpongeBob and Patrick yell at him and leave him instead.

Whirly Brains

Bubble Bass only made a cameo appearance in this episode. He is seen walking across the street while eating ice cream. However, the kid’s whirly brain flew straight into his buttcheeks while SpongeBob and Patrick’s whirly brains flew above him.

Squid Noir

Bubble Bass is confronted by Squidward about stealing his clarinet. The latter raised his suspicion about Bubble Bass when he noticed how annoyed he was by it. After the confrontation, they played action figures with SpongeBob, which was quite an interesting scene.

High Sea Diving

Bubble Bass approaches Mr. Krabs, who’s selling SpongeBob merchandise. He asks him how much Patrick is, thinking he is a standee. Mr. Krabs obliges and sells Patrick for $20. However, Bubble Bass rips off his arm and says it’s a damaged product. Mr. Krabs makes a counteroffer of ten dollars. Bubble Bass happily accepts.

Hiccup Plague

Because of his sheer size, Bubble Bass turned inside-out due to a massive hiccup. He also asks SpongeBob to put some pickles under his tongue to remedy the hiccups.

A Place for Pets

Bubble Bass is among the customers who got kicked out by Mr. Krabs when he decided to make Krusty Krab a place for pets only. Along with other customers, he disguises himself as a sea bunny. It’s hilarious to see Bubble Bass in a sea bunny costume, considering his massive body.

Larry the Floor Manager

Bubble Bass is never shy to hold the line; I’m guessing he enjoys making a tall order! This time, Mr. Krabs shuts him down by shoving a Krabby Patty in his mouth! Later in the episode, Krusty Krabs turned into a gym. Bubble Bass squishes Squidward by accident while complaining about the taste of the protein power shake. At the end of the episode, he helps everyone turn Krusty Krab back to normal.

Bubble Bass’s Tab

In this episode, Bubble Bass is also the main antagonist, like in Moving Bubble Bass. Mr. Krabs is convinced that Bubble Bass has never paid his tab for all the meals he ate at the restaurant. That’s why he asked SpongeBob and Squidward to visit Bubble Bass’ house to get the payment.

The trio proposed if Bubble Bass loses, he needs to pay up. Bubble Bass loses and is forced to work at the Krusty Krab. However, his presence and service only disturb the customers. He decided to pay Mr. Krabs what he owed to clear his tab. Once his tab is paid up, he starts ordering more food, much to Mr. Krab’s annoyance.

Swamp Mates

This is probably the first time that Bubble Bass isn’t the main antagonist but the protagonist. In this episode, Patrick and Bubble Bass are on a playdate, and his Wonder Whale action figure goes missing. He goes to the swamp to find it, of course, with Patrick’s help. They managed to find the action figure, but they were chased down by Hoodoo Guru. Eventually, Patrick and Bubble Bass woke up in Bubble Bass’ basement to find out that the swamp scene was merely a dream.

Answer: It’s impressive that SpongeBob understood Bubble Bass’ order in “Pickles.” He wanted a Double Triple Bossy Deluxe on a raft, four by four, animal-style, extra shingles with a shimmy and a squeeze, light axle grease, which means twenty-four mustard-grilled all-beef patties with double toppings, four extra cheese slices, extra grilled onions, double extra special sauce, all on stacked lightly buttered toast to go.
The order meant: Six well-done all-beef patties with every ingredient. Put it on extra toast with jelly and butter instead of buns plus four times the six current patties, and cheese slices would equal twenty-four patties. Cook the patties in mustard, pickles, extra grilled onions, and additional spread. Pack it to go with extra sauce.

Bubble Bass: Hate Him or Hate Him Even More?

Bubble Bass is a character you will hate from the start, and your opinion might not change. You’d hate him even more once you check out a few more episodes about him. However, he has a sense of charm and appeal, making every episode he appears in a more fun and interesting episode.

He is quite smart but extremely lazy, despite his age. I doubt that he’ll ever change, and if he ever will, it sure is a refreshing surprise to the fans to see the villain turn into a goody two shoes.

I find him a fascinating character. It’s exciting to see what’s in store for him. Aren’t you excited to see more of him in the upcoming episodes and even in a spinoff series? I’m sure you do!
