Nasty Patty Guide

Growing up, I loved watching SpongeBob SquarePants. It’s among the cartoons that you will still love after rewatching it over and over—as a kid or an adult. There’s no doubt that this show is one of Nickelodeon’s best cartoons ever produced!

Created by Stephen Hillenburg, a marine professor, and a talented animator, the show highlights the perfect balance of comedic fun and nuanced characterization. My favorite character would definitely be SpongeBob. When I was a kid, I also dreamt of making Krabby Patties and flipping burgers. The Krabby Patties look so delicious and mouthwatering, but there’s one episode I will never forget, “Nasty Patty”.

The titular episode of Season 3 cracks you up on a whole new level. The episode focuses on how Mr. Krabs and Spongebob created a disgusting version of a Krabby Patty to prank and punish an allegedly fake health inspector. Are you interested to know how the story unfolds?

What antics did the two come up with to hide their ill intentions? Keep reading my Nasty Patty guide and relive this comedic masterpiece! Warning: Spoilers ahead.

What is the Nasty Patty Episode in SpongeBob SquarePants?

Nasty Patty Episode

The Nasty Patty episode in SpongeBob Square Pants is definitely one of the sardonic yet sensical episodes of the third season. Airing in the early 2000s, it’s quite normal to see an episode of the show that talks about morbid and disgusting things.

SpongeBob Square Pants and Mr. Krabs play major roles in the episode as they journey on an unfortunate adventure about their misdeeds. It’s also quite refreshing to see new faces and witness the debut of Health Inspector Yellowtail Andy, a recurring character in the cartoon. Other minor roles include the Roving Police.

In “Nasty Patty,” Mr. Krabs is quite shocked to see the health inspector visit his restaurant. As a way to impress and get a passing mark, he indulges every request the health inspector has.

Mr. Krabs tasks SpongeBob with preparing a full menu for the seemingly unpretentious health inspector. However, before the inspection ends, Mr. Krabs sees the breaking news of a felon pretending to be a health inspector to get free food.

His face turns red out of anger, and he instructs SpongeBob to create a repulsive burger with all the awful ingredients. This horrible creation is dubbed Nasty Patty.

Who are the Characters in Nasty Patty in SpongeBob Squarepants?

There are more than ten characters in this episode with minor and major roles, and they are:

  • SpongeBob SquarePants (major character)
  • Eugene H. Krabs (major character)
  • Health Inspector Yellowtail Andy (major character; debut)
  • Fake Health Inspector (debut, supporting character)
  • Incidental 118 – Orange Police Officer (minor character)
  • Incidental 118B – Purple Police Officer (minor character)
  • Realistic Fish Head (minor character)
  • French Narrator
  • Seahorse (cameo, non-voiced side character)

Nasty Patty Story in SpongeBob

French Narrator Recalls the “Nasty Patty” story

The episode starts with the French Narrator retelling the story of how SpongeBob and Mr. Krabs thought they killed the health inspector. While he narrates the story, it begins on a realistic islet on a stormy night and quickly transitions into a bright and sunny morning in the Bikini Bottom.

Health Inspector Yellowtail Andy Arrives at the Entrance of Krusty Krab

The arrival of the health inspector has caught everyone by surprise, especially Mr. Krabs, who is enjoying his money bath. It’s quite funny how Mr. Krabs knows that the health inspector has arrived. He sniffs the air and has quickly identified the scent of the inspector.

Panicky Mr. Krabs jumps out of his money bath only wearing a yellow towel. He goes straight to Spongebob and warns him about the health inspector. He wants SpongeBob to be the most hygienic and clean cook by washing his hands, cleaning the floors, and even changing his underwear. This might sound absurdly exaggerated, but this is genuinely the Mr. Krabs I’ve come to know and love.

Krabs asks SpongeBob to “Sweet Talk” the Inspector

Before even going out to meet the health inspector, Mr. Krabs tells SpongeBob how important it is to pass the inspection. They should never give him a chance to find a health violation. SpongeBob confidently convinces Mr. Krabs that Krusty Krabs is the most perfect place in the universe.

Mr. Krabs seems skeptical while pushing SpongeBob to go and talk to the health inspector. He instructs SpongeBob to pour his charm and sweet talk to the health inspector. As SpongeBob talks to the inspector, he awkwardly calls him “handsome,”—which makes Mr. Krabs facepalm.

The inspector requests one of everything on the menu. Mr. Krabs and SpongeBob stuff him with all the food items on the Krusty Krab menu.

The Health Inspector Takes a Bite of Every Meal

Spongebob and Mr. Krabs excitedly feed him with every Krusty Krab meal ever made, including the Crunchy Hotdog, Buttered Barnacles, Powdered Driftwood, Fresh Sludge Pudding, Fried Flotsam, and Diet Red Tide. While they’re stuffing food into the inspector’s mouth, he looks annoyed and stops SpongeBob and Mr. Krabs from interfering with his job.

He then grabs his retractable fork to try on some more food. After that, he burps and has enjoyed the meal. However, he wants to try the Krabby Patty. Spongebob and Mr. Krabs celebrate, saying, “We’re in the clear.” Happy celebratory music ensues.

The Screen Cuts to a Breaking News Story of a Man Pretending to be a Health Inspector

Johnny Elaine cuts the regular programming to inform everyone of a fake health inspector on the loose. The health inspector is currently visiting several restaurants in Bikini Bottom to obtain free food.

Krabs Becomes Extremely Angry

Mr. Krabs’ eyes scrunch and turn red after hearing the news. Spongebob unsuspectingly suggests telling the guy about the news. Mr. Krabs mentions that the current inspector might be the impostor trying to score some treats. Spongebob seems to agree with this.

Krabs Wants to Create a Nasty Patty as a Punishment for the “Fake” Inspector

To get revenge, Mr. Krabs wants to add unusual ingredients to the Krabby Patty. Spongebob begins to hesitate about the plan stating that “it doesn’t seem right… but it feels so good.” The duo started to concoct the fugly meal.

Mr. Krabs adds volcano sauce. Spongebob puts Seahorse radish, the gnarliest stuff in the ocean. Worst, Spongebob even drops it in the toilet. Because it’s soggy wet, Mr. Krabs then suggests drying it with his old gym socks. The ugliest Krabby Patty is focused on the screen. Its extremely appalling appearance is unappetizing; it keeps me wondering why anyone would dare take a bite of such a meal. SpongeBob then named it the Nasty Patty.

Spongebob Offers the Krabby Patty to the Health Inspector

Health Inspector

He quickly leaves the scene to hide in the kitchen. Before the health inspector even takes a bite of the Nasty Patty, a fly enters his mouth. Because of this, he begins to choke. Mr. Krabs and Spongebob are delighted about this scene. Both are boisterously laughing without any regard for the choking inspector.

While they were laughing inside the kitchen, they didn’t realize what truly happened—the health inspector only passed out and choked on the fly. Spongebob and Mr. Krabs immediately assume that they have caused the death of the health inspector. Both are stunned and so shocked that they sit on the floor with eyes wide open.

Realistic Fish Head Reports that the Fake Inspector is Captured

The scene cuts to a report from the Realistic Fish Head. He informs the public that the fake inspector has been captured and shows a picture of a man that looked entirely different from the one they duped.

Innocent SpongeBob then makes a comment that the current health inspector inside Krusty Krab wouldn’t mind about the incident. He even thinks that they will simply have a good laugh about the awkward situation.

The Health Inspector Collapses and Lies Flat on the Floor

Mr. Krab peeks through the kitchen window to check the situation in the restaurant. To his surprise, the health inspector has passed out—his eyes are crossed out while his tongue exaggeratedly protrudes and touches the floor of the Krusty Krabs.

The nasty patty’s ingredients are scattered all over the place, and the table where the inspector was sitting is already broken. Mr. Krabs is utterly shocked and devastated upon witnessing the sight. He then proceeds to scream that the inspector won’t be laughing because the nasty patty killed him.

Shocked, Mr. Krabs and Spongebob Concoct a Plan to Hide Their Misdeeds

Spongebob and Mr. Krabs begin to scream and scream endlessly. They peek out of the window once more to verify the situation and end up screaming in horror. SpongeBob hugs Mr. Krabs to seek comfort and asks him what else they can do about the health inspector.

Of course, true to Mr. Krabs’ personality, he immediately washes his hands off the nasty business and pushes SpongeBob to take full accountability. He shouts that SpongeBob alone fed the inspector the tainted and dirty meal.

Spongebob admits that he is guilty; he is extremely worried about going to prison. He feels anxious and troubled, stating that he will never survive in prison. Mr. Krabs is stern and wants Spongebob to get a hold of himself. He unapologetically tells SpongeBob that they need to hide the body.

They Head Straight to an Empty, Barren Hill

Both journey to a sandy hill where they plan to bury the body. Mr. Krabs leads the way as he is carrying a lamp to light their path. SpongeBob lags behind, pulling the inspector’s unconscious body. He feels quite displeased touching the “corpse” and sprays an air freshener to probably lessen his revulsion.

As they reach the top of the hill, SpongeBob continues to be irked by their plans of hiding the inspector’s body. You can see subtle hesitation in his eyes while Mr. Krabs seems so certain about the foolproof plan. It’s ironically funny to see SpongeBob feel this way as he’s always so confident in his actions.

Spongebob is Tasked with Burying and Hiding the Body

Spongebob bury the body

Bossy Mr. Krabs demands that SpongeBob dig a grave site for the body He stands by the hole without helping to make things go faster. Because SpongeBob is alone in completing the task, it doesn’t go as quickly as planned. Mr. Krabs puts his lamp nearer to the site while shouting, “What’s the hold up down there?”

SpongeBob peers with frightened eyes and tells Mr. Krabs about the rock blocking the way. Mr. Krabs seems unbothered and demands that SpongeBob continues digging.

SpongeBob throws a heavy boulder out of the way, hitting the inspector in the head. This scene was actually where I laughed the most! Instead of waking up from being unconscious, the inspector went drowsy when the huge rock hit him.

I really thought Mr. Krabs and SpongeBob would notice that the inspector was not dead, considering that Mr. Krabs noticed something different about the body.

Spongebob clarifies and asks Mr. Krabs what he meant by it. He then highlights that the inspector’s head is sticking out. SpongeBob made a witty comeback as he told Mr. Krabs that the body might need some air, but Mr. Krabs insists that he won’t need air anymore.

SpongeBob Feels Guilty and Wants to Say a Few Words to Honor the Inspector

Both set out to leave the place, yet SpongeBob, being Spongebob, wants to say a few words for a proper goodbye. That’s when Mr. Krabs starts blabbering words he never meant, while Spongebob sobs so hard, saying that the inspector was a brave man to die in the line of duty. He is in tears asking why such an incident had happened.

Even before Spongebob stops crying, Mr. Krabs grabs him by the collar and mentions that no one should know about their misdeeds. He starts covering Spongebob’s mouth and exaggerates how this news spreading would be “the end” for both of them.

Patrolling Police Officers saw SpongeBob and Mr. Krabs

In comes another surprise, two police patrollers are roving around the scene. The policeman starts to flash a harsh, white light on SpongeBob and Mr. Krabs. They scream that both were guilty. Not knowing what they’re guilty of, SpongeBob starts to sing about the crime they just committed.

Mr. Krabs is witty enough to ask what their charges were. The police officers give them a strict look and they expect the worst! However, they eventually say that the two are guilty of whipping them up delicious Krabby Patties. They then started giggling while Mr. Krabs and Spongebob nervously laugh.

The Inspector’s Body Slides Down Because of the Heavy Rain

The police officers offer the pair a ride home since it begins raining profusely. This causes the sand to erode, letting the unconscious health inspector resurface from the grave. Mr. Krabs smacks Spongebob as they head to the back of the trunk to put the shovel back. Mr. Krabs advises SpongeBob to stay calm and not lose his cool. However, Spongebob is fighting his nerves through his teeth.

He asks Mr. Krabs if he can lose his cool since the unconscious body was washed away by the heavy rain in their direction. You can see them struggle to find excuses to keep a straight face. Mr. Krabs runs straight to the driver’s seat to buy more time and keep the cops busy.

They Nervously Ride Inside the Police Car

Spongebob carries the unconscious body in the trunk as Mr. Krabs tries to find excuses for the holdup. Without noticing that the health inspector is now conscious, Spongebob slams the trunk. This leads to the inspector regaining consciousness.

The two sit in the back of the car and are ready to go to Krusty Krabs. Unfortunately, SpongeBob can no longer contain his guilt. His eyes are wide with fear, and his teeth and body are shaking. The police officers are quite concerned for him, so Mr. Krabs tells them that he gets carsick easily. To ease his supposed fear, the police officers try to convince him that they’ll drive slowly.

As they drive on, Mr. Krabs starts giving unsuspecting instructions to SpongeBob. He tells Spongebob to bring the shovel to the backroom and stow it in the freezer. He then winks to make sure Spongebob gets his point.

However, Spongebob seems to not get the instruction. He almost spilled the secret, but before he does that, Mr. Krabs grabs his mouth to stop him from stating the obvious crime.

He easily adlibs and tells Spongebob to keep the bottles of soda at the back and do the same thing as the shovel. The policewoman stares at both of them with blank eyes. She probably is extremely confused. While still grabbing SpongeBob’s mouth, Mr. Krabs smiles suspiciously at the officer.

SpongeBob Attempts to Hide the Body

When they arrive at Krusty Krabs, Spongebob struggles to pull the body as the rain becomes heavier. When he is in the back room, he notices that the doors are locked. He seems helpless while thinking about what else he should do.

Creative as he is, SpongeBob sneaks in the unconscious body by concealing it with his hat. He all does this in plain sight. This makes Mr. Krabs sweat while nervously asking SpongeBob what happened outside.

His hat, which conceals the unconscious body, keeps moving sideways. Mr. Krabs looks sweaty, uncomfortably laughing at the situation.

Unfortunately, SpongeBob’s hat falls to the ground. Because of this, Mr. Krabs pretends to host an “Open Cash Register Night” to grab the attention of the police officers. After giving free money, a police officer receives a tip from a hotline call. However, the female police officer (Incidental 118B) wants to get a soda; Mr. Krabs hurriedly hands her a glass of soda without ice.

The Privy Policewoman Begins to get Curious and Asks Too Many Questions

The policewoman asks to add ice to her drink which makes Mr. Krabs panic in fear. He tremors as SpongeBob enters the scene. Spongebob looks blankly in space while saying that he has successfully complied with Mr. Krabs’ orders.

Still wanting a cold soda, Incidental 118B tries to enter the kitchen. Mr. Krabs immediately stops her attempt to go to the freezer by blocking the door. He mutters, “There’s no ice. There’s never been any ice.”

Incidental 118B stops them both from acting weird and orders SpongeBob and Mr. Krabs to step aside. What’s baffling is how she casually mentions the two having committed murder.

This causes a major alarm for Mr. Krabs. He confesses what they did. However, he only blames SpongeBob for the incident. He tells the officer that SpongeBob committed the murder. They start a blame game, pinpointing each other’s motives and ensuring that not one of them would be convicted of the alleged crime.

The policewoman looks startled, especially since all she wants to do is get ice from the freezer. Mr. Krabs clarifies that they killed the health inspector. He retells the tale of their misdeed, stating how they killed him and stuffed his body in the freezer.

To corroborate their story, Incidental 118B opens the freezer door to find an empty room. Luckily, Mr. Krabs and SpongeBob quickly deny their story when the policewoman questions them whether the story was just a joke.

They Begin to Joke Around About Mr. Krabs and SpongeBob’s Misadventures

The policewoman starts to add to the story saying that the health inspector turned into a zombie and walked out. Everyone starts laughing upon hearing this since it sounds too impossible.

A big black shadow enters the scene, which surprises everyone. Their eyes widen in shock to witness such a sight. The drowsy health inspector turns the light on, but the policeman hits him with a mental anchor, causing him to collapse immediately. Incidental 118B also hits the inspector with a barrel.

A Drowsy Inspector Gives Them a Passing Rate

Inspector Gives Them a Passing Rate

In the end, the inspector hands in a passing mark for the Krusty Krab restaurant in order to avoid being hit by the gang.

SpongeBob states the obvious and tells everyone that they passed the inspection. Because of this, everyone jumps for joy while walking outside the kitchen. Mr. Krabs exclaims in delight. He exclaims that everyone gets Krabby Patties at half the price, but he immediately retracts the statement.

The disgruntled inspector tries to crawl outside the kitchen. He says he also wants to get a delicious bite of Krabby Patties. Before he even steps outside the kitchen, the door closes. His face hits the metal door forming a bump.

As the episode ends, you can hear the French narrator wrap up the story. It’s both irksome and funny that he casually says that there are also a lot of idiots in Bikini Bottom.

Question: What are the ingredients in Nasty Patty?

Answer: The Nasty Patty is made with the most disgusting ingredients plus the regular Krabby Patty Ingredients. It uses volcano sauce, an extremely spicy condiment that burns your mouth instantaneously. Answer: Nope. The inspector almost took a bite of the Krabby Patty. However, he choked on a fly which blocked his breathing. Because of this, he fainted and collapsed on the floor. Conclusion: Nasty Patty, Another Episode Filled with Dark Humor

Nasty Patty is one of the best episodes for me. SpongeBob has always been popular for its lighthearted and seemingly G-rated content. Yet this episode deviates from all of that. It introduces a couple of interesting characters like the Health Inspector and the Police Officers. The story follows an exciting misadventure that will leave you at your wit’s end.

Aside from that, one thing I love the most about this episode is how you see the deeper relationship between Mr. Krabs and SpongeBob. It’s refreshing to see how, at times, Mr. Krabs take full responsibility and accountability for the situation. All in all, it’s a wacky episode filled with not-so-subtle dark humor.
